FAQ
(Graphic Design syllabus)
WHAT WILL WE BE LEARNING IN THIS CLASS?
All students enrolled in Graphic Design and Illustration II have successfully completed Digital Media and Graphic Design and Illustration. In this course, we will dive deeper into the understanding of the elements/principles of design with a focus on how these elements are used in their projects. We will learn about the design and critique process and apply these skills to our projects throughout the year. We will develop an advanced understanding of the industry with a focus on mastery of content knowledge and skills. What knowledge and skills? Look here!!
HOW DO YOU GRADE?
60% of our grade will be based on projects. These are projects that will take longer than a day or two and will be graded differently based on what we're working on. These projects will be completed in class with no homework expectations.
30% of our grade will be based on daily assignments such as design exercises, participation in team projects, design presentations, mock interviews and client meetings, check points, etc.
10% of our grade will be based on self assessment (super important in the design process) and hitting deadlines. Real-world projects have deadlines and so do we.
I'M NOT HAPPY WITH A PROJECT GRADE. AM I STUCK WITH IT?
Not usually! We're working within a design cycle through most of our projects so it's important to practice what we're preaching here. Assuming you've received a low grade, take it as feedback / critique and revise your design. Argue your design choices. I'm open to grade changes within an appropriate time frame and depending on the project.
WHAT ARE THE CLASS RULES?
We discussed them at the beginning of the year and they will continue to drive the culture of our creative space.

Care...for yourself.
Care...for each other.
Care...for your teacher (and I for you).
Care...for your classroom.

Consequences vary by issue and will be discussed on an individual basis.
I'M A GREAT DESIGNER. WHAT NOW?
Awesome! Let's foster and grow your talents and creativity while also pushing you outside of your comfort zone. The wider your range of skills, the more marketable you are.
FAQ
(Printshop syllabus)
WHAT IS PRINTSHOP?
Dragon Printshop is an educational startup. We are a student-run, large-format print facility that designs, prints, and markets.

We have a diverse clientele which includes student organizations, administration, staff, and clients throughout the district. Dragon Printshop partners with local companies to learn about and implement industry best practices in order to produce professional quality products and designs.
HOW DO YOU GRADE?
80% of our grade will be based on our daily work. Every day will look different in here and expectations will always be changing. We'll work collaboratively to communicate with clients and designers, fulfill orders, print, clean, deliver, and install
20% of our grade will be based on skill based assessments. Examples include identifying materials, safely and accurately using tools, coating and cleaning screens, registering a screen print job, and efficiently using our large format printer.
I'M NOT HAPPY WITH ANÂ ASSESSMENT GRADE. AM I STUCK WITH IT?
Never. We're always learning and getting better. Just because we weren't successful the first time doesn't mean we won't be with more practice and teaching.
